James R. Steiner joined Corning in 1984 and has worked in the Horseheads, N.Y., Parkersburg, W.Va., and Erwin, N.Y., plants. He was appointed manager of Marketing and Finance, Corning GmbH, and relocated to Wiesbaden, Germany in 1992.
In 1995, he returned to the United States and was appointed product line manager, Automotive Substrates in the Environmental Products Division. In 1996 he was appointed business manager for Specialty Lighting and Materials in Advanced Materials Division and in May 1999, he was named division vice president, business manager, Specialty Lighting and Materials, MTD.
In February 2000, Steiner was appointed to vice president and general manager, Specialty Materials and to his current position of senior vice president and general manager, Specialty Materials in April 2003. Specialty Materials division manufactures enabling materials used in the semiconductor, industrial, telecommunications and display markets. Steiner also leads Corning’s Gorilla® Glass business, part of Corning Glass Technologies. Gorilla Glass is a damage-resistant cover glass used in hundreds of consumer electronic devices.
Steiner is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
