PYREX® Reagent Bottles with Glass Stoppers
These PYREX® narrow mouth reagent storage bottles are available in 125ml to 2L capacities. They have sturdy ground necks with hollow Standard Taper stoppers that meet the standards outlined in ASTM E-675. Replacement stoppers are available (No. 7575 series).

PYREX® reagent bottles are ideal for storing reagents and solutions because of their outstanding chemical durability. However all glassware will be chemically attacked by hydrofluoric acid, hot phosphoric acid and strong hot alkalis, so it should never be used to contain or to store these materials.

*Bottle performance in freezers depends on both the temperature and contents in the bottle. It is strongly recommended that a trial run be performed under actual conditions to test the suitability of the bottles for frozen storage.
Caution: These bottles should never be used pressurized or under vacuum or heated on hot plates or over Bunsen burners.

Freeing stuck glass stoppers
When reagent bottles with ground glass stoppers are not in use for an extended period of time, it is best to take them apart to prevent sticking. Remove any grease, if used, from the joints. For easy storage and reuse, put a strip of thin paper between ground surfaces.
If a ground glass stopper sticks, the following procedure will generally free it. Immerse the stopper in a glass container of freshly poured carbonated liquid (soda). You will be able to see the liquid penetrate between the ground surfaces. When the surfaces are wet (allow 5 to 10 minutes submersion) remove the bottle and rinse with tap water. Wipe away excess water. Then gently warm the wall of the bottle neck by rotating it for 15 to 20 seconds over a low Bunsen burner flame or running it under hot water. (Be sure that 50% of the inner surface is wet before inserting the joint in the flame and that the contents of the bottles can be safely heated.) Remove from the flame and, taking care to protect your hands and fingers, gently twist the two members apart. If they do not come apart, repeat the procedure. Never use force separating ground glass stoppers from bottles by this method. See documents below for additional safety or technical information on laboratory glassware.
