Corning® Cell Culture Surfaces:
Corning® CellBIND® Polystyrene Surface
Find out how you could win a share of $100,000 of Corning products by using this innovative product
The unique Corning CellBIND surface is the first novel cell culture surface
treatment in over 20 years. This new surface enhances attachment making it
easier to grow fastidious cells under difficult conditions, such as
reduced-serum or serum-free medium, resulting in higher cell yields.
Developed by Corning scientists, this patented (US Patent # 6,617,152)
technology uses a microwave process for treating the culture surface. This new
process improves cell attachment by incorporating significantly more oxygen
into the cell culture surface, rendering it more hydrophilic and increasing
surface stability.

Unlike poly-D-lysine and biological coatings, the Corning CellBIND surface is a
nonbiological surface that requires no special handling or storage. Because the
polymer is treated, rather than coated, the surface is consistent and stable.
This enhanced performance has already led to a major biotechnology company
choosing Corning roller bottles with the Corning CellBIND surface for producing
a new FDA approved protein therapeutic.
Corning CellBIND Surface Benefits
-
Quickly adapts cells to reduced serum or serum-free conditions
-
May eliminate the need for expensive coatings
-
Improves attachment and yield
-
No special handling or storage required
Corning CellBIND Surface works with:
-
Primary Cultures – helps them attach without need for expensive biological
coatings
-
Roller bottle cultures – cells attach faster and remain attached longer
-
Transfected cells – helps them stay attached when over-expressing proteins
-
Cell-based assays – reduces cell losses during washing steps for lower CVs

Corning CellBIND Surface improves HEK-293 yields in low serum conditions
1.8x106 HEK-293 cells were grown in Corning 75cm2 flasks
containing 5mL IMDM medium with 1% fetal bovine serum for 7 days.
