Corning Introduces RoboFlask™ Cell Culture Vessels for Increased Throughput

The first cell culture flask in a microplate-size footprint

Acton, Massachusetts, October 2004 - To enable researchers increased speed and efficiency in cell culture, Corning Life Sciences introduces the RoboFlask™ cell culture vessel; the first flask for automation in the standard microplate footprint. The flask provides greater than 20% additional cell growth area over a 75cm2 flask.

The RoboFlask™ vessel is designed for fully integrated cell culture instrumentation such as the Tecan Cellerity™ System. The lower profile design maximizes the use of incubator space when using the flask in manual operations.

RoboFlask™ cell culture vessels have a smaller footprint than standard 75cm2 flasks with a cell growth area of 92.6cm2. The flasks features include a septum cap that is suitable for multiple entries by robotic liquid handling systems. The cap may also be removed for manual seeding and harvesting of cells. A diagonal slope ensures recovery of all media and cells. For proper gas exchange during feeding and incubation, a durable 2.2cm2 hydrophobic vent membrane is built into the RoboFlask™ vessel. Flasks are available with standard tissue culture treatment and custom coatings are available.
