Corning Life Sciences Announces New Innovations for Existing Series of Hot Plates, Stirrers, and Stirring Hot Plates

State-of-the-Art Digital Displays Provide Customers with Improved Safety Features and Advanced Ease-of-Use Capabilities

Acton, M.A., April 2006 - Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW), a global supplier of scientific laboratory and drug discovery products for more than 90 years, announced today the addition of digital displays to its hot plates, stirrers and stirring hot plates. The new digital display features include: a digital temperature display adjustable in 5 degree increments and set temperature indicator; optimum digital stir speed display indicator; and an external temperature controller for precision accuracy "inside the beaker."

Digital display hot plates and stirrers help scientists to be more precise in their experiments by providing outstanding clarity, functionality, and brightness through easy-to-read LED indicated temperature and stir speed settings. The new stir and heat displays are also Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) approved and allow for specific settings that enable labs to establish routine protocols.

"Corning Life Sciences is constantly looking at ways to enhance our leading products with new and innovative technologies to best help our customers improve their lab experience but also enhance the quality and accuracy of their research," said Cheryl Gingras, Equipment Product Manager, Corning Life Sciences. "Through our ongoing conversations with customers, we recognized the need to introduce a digital display feature and temperature controller to ensure a safer environment for easy, repeatable and accurate lab testing."

The Corning® hot plates and stirrers are designed to easily and safely identify overheating, conserve lab space, provide for uniform heating and better contrast during applications that require monitoring of color changes, and feature a closed-loop stirring control that monitors and regulates speed. Additionally, all units show international symbols for non-English-speaking operators. Corning has been manufacturing state-of-the-art hot plates since 1964.
