return to questions

What are the benefits of living in a Corning Connected Community?

Perhaps the biggest benefit of living in a Corning Connected Community is the knowledge that in your home anything is possible. Fiber has the bandwidth to support all of the services that exist for the home today: security, environmental control, Video on Demand, High Speed Internet, video telephony, online gaming, telework and distance learning. But what is even more exciting is that the bandwidth delivered to each home in a Corning Connected Community is such that our imaginations are our only limitation.

return to questions

Is living in a Corning Connected Community expensive?

The price of homes in a Corning Connected Community is determined by the homebuilder. However, we expect that over time the resale value of the homes in a Corning Connected Community will increase over non-connected homes, as future applications make broadband connectivity a "must have" rather than a "nice to have."

return to questions

Will all my billing for phone, cable, & internet be consolidated onto one bill?

While this is certainly possible, the service provider for each community will determine how billing is handled.

return to questions

Is this technology going to mesh with my current television, computer, phone, etc.?

Living in a Corning Connected Community will certainly not render your current appliances obsolete. However, homeowners in Corning Connected Communities may decide to upgrade some of their appliances to take advantage of special services that may be offered in their neighborhood.

return to questions

What is a "smart house"?

A Smart house is a house in which all appliances (microwave, washing machine, surveillance cameras, etc.) and environmental control elements (thermostat, lighting, etc.) are inter-connected and linked to the Internet. The workings of the entire house are configurable from anywhere in the world through the Internet.

return to questions

Are all homes in Corning Connected Communities "smart houses"?

While fiber-to-the-home networks will enable the technology of a "smart house," the specific service offering in each Corning Connected Community will vary based on the neighborhood's service provider(s).

return to questions

Will owning a Corning Connected Community increase the resale value of my home?

Based on the saturation of the existing network infrastructure, the ever increasing demand for bandwidth, and the proliferation of new service offerings that will require fiber to the home, we expect broadband connectivity to increase the value of a home. Keep in mind, of course, that real estate is a market subject to a great number of forces and no one can guarantee that the property value of a given home or neighborhood will increase.

return to questions

Do Corning Connected Communities look different from other neighborhoods?

There are no aesthetic elements inherent to a fiber-to-the-home network that will cause a Corning Connected Community to look different.
