Shizuoka, Japan

ShizuokaAs the birthplace of the thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) industry, Japan continues to be a leader in technology advancement. Established in 1989, the highly automated Shizuoka facility was Corning’s first LCD glass substrate manufacturing plant in Asia. Today, the Shizuoka facility plays a key role in developing innovative finishing technology and larger-size glass substrates, while providing superior service to meet the needs of our customers in Japan.

Shizuoka has also delivered manufacturing advances that are being duplicated in Corning’s other LCD substrate manufacturing facilities, including a leading-edge inspection system. It was also the first of Corning’s facilities to produce Generation (Gen) 6 and Gen 8 glass.

In 2004 and 2006, Corning added significant production capacity for Gen 6 and Gen 8 at Shizuoka, and further expanded Gen 8 manufacturing capacity at the facility in 2007.

Throughout all operations, the employees at Corning Japan K.K.’s facilities are committed to preserving and protecting the natural environment around them.
