Corning Gilbert Introduces the G3POTM
a Nano-Miniature, High-Performance RF Connector
Glendale, AZ, July 8, 2005 – Corning Gilbert, a subsidiary of
Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) has announced the introduction of its smallest
push-on, high-performance, microwave interconnect system. The G3POTM connector,
approximately 30% smaller in size than the GPPO®, has been developed in
response to industry demand for increased package density, lower weight, and
excellent performance at higher frequencies. Well-suited for a variety of
military and commercial applications, the G3POTM can be used in radar systems,
telecommunications and wireless base station equipment, satellite systems,
antenna arrays, etc.
"Corning Gilbert's broad development experience in coaxial push-on interconnects
continues to set the industry gold standard for performance. Our innovative
G3POTM product line will perform at higher frequencies than the current GPO®
and GPPO® and will enable our customers to design and manufacture in smaller
size packages," said Kathryn Murphy, president and chief executive officer of
Corning Gilbert.
The G3POTM connectors support increased package density with center-to-center
spacing of 0.085" minimum and PCB to PCB stack height of 0.120" minimum. The
new connectors are designed for 50 ohms. They feature a frequency range from DC
to 65 GHz and an operating temperature range from -65°C to +165°C. Typical VSWR
is 1.1:1 to 26.5 GHz and 1.25:1 to 65 GHz. They allow for both radial and axial
misalignment with negligible VSWR change and are capable of meeting
environmental requirements per MIL-PRF-39012 such as corrosion, vibration,
mechanical shock, thermal shock and moisture resistance. Our unique axial and
radial misalignment features enable efficient assembly and robust performance
under challenging conditions.
The G3POTM Standard Blind-mate Interconnect, part number R1R1-0001-01, weighs
only 0.2 milligrams. The G3POTM product line includes custom blind-mate
interconnects, edge-launch and surface-mount connectors, cable connectors
male and female, multi-position blocks in various sizes and detents, hermetic
and load connectors. To meet customer specific short lead times, Corning
Gilbert offers a fast and reliable turn around in the prototype shop. "We
specialize in custom designs that meet our customers' requirements and can be
manufactured in short lead times," explained Eric Paulus, design engineering
manager. In addition, the products are being manufactured efficiently in high
volumes at the production facility in Glendale, AZ.
Corning Gilbert's microwave product portfolio includes a breadth of coaxial
push-on and threaded connectors. For more information, visit the Corning
