TS LAN 400 Training Course


Hands-On Installation Technology Course for Multimode Optical Local Area Networks

Description
TS LAN 400 is a four-day course that prepares craftsmen for all aspects of fiber optic cable installation in a local area network environment. Cable placement, fusion and mechanical splicing, cable termination (connector installation and pigtail splicing) and acceptance testing are taught with extensive hands-on practice. Students build, test and troubleshoot a complete multimode system in this class. Also covered is the use of equipment, hardware and procedures pertaining to building distribution and campus applications.

BICSI Continuing Education Credit (CEC): 28 hours Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) and/or Installation

Curriculum

  • Complete multimode fiber optic system build
  • Theory and principles of fiber optics
  • Fiber types and fiber manufacturing techniques: multimode and single-mode fibers
  • Cable types and manufacturing techniques: loose tube and tight-buffered cables
  • Fire code and National Electrical Code® (NEC®) considerations
  • Cable installation and placement techniques for building, duct, aerial and direct-buried applications
  • Installing wire mesh pulling and split grips
  • Cable preparation techniques for splicing and connectorization
  • Termination methods for field-installable connectors, pigtails and preconnectorized assemblies
  • Installing the Corning Cable Systems multimode UniCam® SC, ST® Compatible and MT-RJ Connectors, in addition to anaerobic connectors
  • Splicing: applications, fusion, mechanical and termination methods
  • Fusion splicing with the Corning Cable Systems X77 and M90 Fusion Splicers: features and troubleshooting tips
  • Hardware types and applications
  • Optical attenuation test set procedures: one, two and three jumper references
  • Use and Operation of the Corning Cable Systems Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR)
  • Network testing and documentation: procedures and requirements
  • Troubleshooting equipment and procedures
  • Safety: chemical safety, laser safety and fiber handling precautions
