TS ANI 500 Training Course


Hands-On Installation Technology Course for Optical Single-Mode Access Networks Used in Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) and Fiber-to-the Business (FTTB) Deployments - Collectively Called "FTTx"

Description
A five-day hands-on course that prepares craftsmen for all aspects of fiber optic cable installation in an optical access network (FTTx) environment. Single-mode fiber types are covered. Cable placement, fusion and mechanical splicing, cable termination (connector installation and pigtail splicing) and acceptance testing are taught with extensive hands-on practice. Students build, test and troubleshoot a complete   single-mode system in this class. Also covered is the use of equipment, hardware and procedures pertaining to Passive Optical Network (PON) applications.

Fiber Types and Manufacturing
– Multimode and single-mode fiber types

Cable Types and Construction
– Loose tube and drop cables: types and construction
– Cable environments and the National Electrical Code® (NEC®)

Basic Fiber Topologies for Access Passive Optical Networks
Basic layout, physical cabling options

Cable Installation Techniques
– Outside plant (interbuilding), duct, aerial and direct buried
– Hands-on fiber optic cable sheath removal
– Hands-on installation of a wire mesh and split pulling grips 

Advanced Right of Way
MCS® Road and SST-Optimizer™ Cables

Use and Operation of the Corning Cable Systems OTDR
Uses, principle of operation and typical display

Splicing
– Fusion and mechanical splicing: X77, M90, and CamSplice™ Mechanical Splice
– Fusion spliced terminations: Fuselite® II Termination System

Termination
– Termination Types: Field-Installable, Pigtail Splicing and Preconnectorized Assemblies
– Cable preparation techniques and splicing and connectorization
– UniCam® LC and SC and Anaerobic LC and SC connectors

Access Hardware Types
– For the Headend/Central Office (HE/CO), Local Convergence Point (LCP), Network Access Point  (NAP) and the Network Interface Device (NID) at the Customer Premises (CP)
– Enclosures, cabinets and couplers/splitters

Test Equipment
– Optical source and power meter and Visual Fault Locators (VFLs)

Fiber Optic System Testing and Documentation
– Attenuation test procedures — one, two and three jumper reference
– Link loss budget calculation

Emergency Restoration
– System design and plan of attack
