Corning Cable Systems to Highlight Leadership in LAN and Data Center Solutions at BICSI 2010 Winter Conference

Hickory, NC, January 18, 2010 –  Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, will highlight its innovative local area network (LAN) and data center solutions at the 2010 BICSI Winter Conference, Jan. 17-20 in Orlando.

In its interactive exhibit (booth #1307), Corning Cable Systems will showcase its new LANscape® Pretium® Evolved-Density, Growth-Enabled (EDGE) Solutions for data center applications. Enabled by Corning® ClearCurve® Multimode fiber, Pretium EDGE Solutions feature preterminated and tested multi-fiber assemblies, or trunks, with a minimum bend radius as small as five times the outer diameter of the cable, compared to up to 10 times in traditional trunks. Pretium EDGE Solutions allow for up to 35 percent faster deployment; enable up to 25 percent faster moves, adds and changes (MACs); and offer up to 100 percent more density than traditional preterminated solutions.

Pretium EDGE Solutions are guaranteed to meet the requirements of 40/100G Ethernet when necessary, and its universally-wired components provide a simple upgrade path between 2-fiber and parallel optic applications.

Corning Optical Fiber and Corning Cable Systems will also perform a live demonstration of the difference in bit error rates of cables with ultra-bendable performance enabled by ClearCurve multimode fiber vs. standard 50 micron cables. Customers will experience firsthand how using Corning Cable Systems’ cables with ultra-bendable performance can significantly minimize the risk of bit error rates and network downtime associated with common macrobend events in the data center.

The exhibit will also contain the following:

  • Plug & Play™ Universal Systems, preterminated optical fiber cabling systems that streamline the process of deploying an optical network infrastructure in the data center environment. Corning Cable Systems Plug & Play Universal Systems are 100G ready and capable of reliably supporting transmission speeds up to 100G with laser-optimized 50 µm multimode fiber (OM3/OM4).
  • The Plug & Play Universal Systems Integrated Trunk Module (ITM), a factory-terminated MTP® trunk in a single-wide Plug & Play Universal Systems module, available in 40, 80, 120, 160 and 200 ft options, and simple to deploy and redeploy.
  • Plug & Play AnyLAN™ Systems for both indoor and outdoor applications, featuring a multimode or single-mode optical fiber cable pre-installed with network access points at customer-specified intervals and a tethered, environmentally hardened MT connector. Once distance measurements for network access point locations are obtained, the preterminated system is manufactured and tested. The entire system is then packed and shipped to the customer on a cable reel for immediate deployment in the desired indoor or outdoor application.
  • UniCam® Pretium-Performance Connectors, which offer an industry-leading optical performance in a fast, easy field-termination solution.
  • A variety of Corning Cable Systems’ test equipment and fusion splicers, available for hands-on demonstrations in the exhibit.

In addition to the interactive exhibit, Corning Cable Systems’ Doug Coleman, manager of technology and standards, will present “Data Center Optical Connectivity with Bend-Optimized OM3/OM4 Multimode Optical Fiber,” on Wed., Jan. 20, at 2:00 p.m. This presentation will discuss the advantages of cabling and hardware solutions that utilize bend-optimized OM3/OM4 fiber to support 16G Fibre Channel rates and future 40/100G Ethernet data rates.

Last, Corning Cable Systems is the Mega Sponsor of the Cabling Skills Challenge. The Cabling Skills Challenge is a BICSI event in which approximately 20 BICSI-certified installers compete in a variety of categories. Corning is supplying fusion splicers, testers and UniCam Connectors/Tool Kits for the challenge, as well as a variety of door prizes.
