Corning Cable Systems to Highlight Leadership in Data Center Applications at Interop Las Vegas 2009 Conference

Hickory, NC, May 12, 2009 –  Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, will feature its innovative data center solutions at Interop Las Vegas 2009 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, May 17-21.

In its interactive exhibit (#2354), Corning Cable Systems will showcase its Plug & Play™ Universal Systems, a preterminated optical fiber cabling system that streamlines the process of deploying an optical network infrastructure in the data center environment. Corning Cable Systems Plug & Play Universal Systems are 100G ready and capable of reliably supporting transmission speeds up to 100G with laser-optimized 50 µm multimode fiber (OM3).

The exhibit will also feature Corning Cable Systems Pretium® Low-loss OM3 Jumpers with ultra-bend performance. Enabled by Corning® ClearCurve® OM3 multimode fiber, the jumpers greatly reduce outages and degradation in systems caused by severe bending problems. As network transmission speeds increase, available margins tighten and become more sensitive to loss associated with a number of factors including bends. Attenuation loss impacts associated with inadvertent macro-bending events may be reduced by more than 50 percent when using Pretium Low-loss OM3 Jumpers with ultra-bend performance in place of traditional 50 µm jumpers.

The new interactive exhibit will also contain:

Pretium Integrated Solutions Zero-U System, which features pre-engineered optical harnesses that map directly to the line card ports of major equipment vendor SAN directors and includes MTP® Connector brackets mounted into the cabinet’s vertical manager to facilitate patching instead of consuming valuable rack space as is traditional, providing more room for data center electronics. The Pretium Integrated Solutions family also includes the U-Space System, which provides the high-density benefits realized by the Zero-U System, utilizing a traditional rack mount housing for the MTP Connector patching area.
Corning Cable Systems’ Integrated Trunk Module (ITM), which is a factory-terminated MTP trunk in a single-wide Plug & Play Universal Systems module. Available in lengths up to 200 ft, the ITM provides a low-fiber-count option for significant distances. The ITM virtually eliminates the need for cable length planning and reduces material management complexity. With integrated slack management, the product is simple to deploy and redeploy.

Pretium® Intelligent Manager, which allows the infrastructure hardware and cabling to be connected to iTRACS software and compatible analyzers, forming an intelligent infrastructure management solution (IIMS). The system allows for the efficient administration and tracking of moves, adds and changes, therefore reducing operating expenses. It also monitors the system and provides alerts for quick corrective action of errors to minimize costly downtime.
Plug & Play™ Universal Systems 96-Fiber Shelf, which provides 96-fiber density in 1U, with LC duplex connectors across the front and eight MTP® Connectors across the back of the shelf. An angled panel design and a sliding drawer provide ease of frontal access to the shelf, and the tilt feature and port identification provide clear line-of-sight to all connectors.
