Network Approval with Source and Meters

With a combination of optical source and power meter, the installed link can be verified and approved. This procedure ensures that the power budget requirement can be met as its verification is crucial for transmission equipment to work.

Link loss measurement with Optical Testers

  • Only a pair of optical source and meter allows a precise measurement of the link loss including its front and end connectors
  • A pair of patch cords is necessary to perform the measurement
  • The 1st patch cord allows the source to be referenced
  • The 2nd patch cord must be checked before use by connecting it between the 1st one and the power meter
  • Both connectors that go to the optical link are double-checked by the previous measurement as well
  • When performing similar measurement on multi-mode system, mandrels are needed additionally to avoid overfilled conditions
  • For bidirectional measurement on one fiber, both light source and power meter need to change their location. This isn't necessary with a pair of testers

Corning handheld OTS-400 / OS- / OM-400 series possesses the ability to send the source referencing value that is measured in the near end site automatically through the connected fiber to the far end compatible power meter. This procedure minimizes significantly measurement errors...  > More
