Link loss measurement with Optical Testers
-
Only a pair of optical source and meter allows a precise measurement of the link loss including its front and end connectors
-
A pair of patch cords is necessary to perform the measurement
-
The 1st patch cord allows the source to be referenced
-
The 2nd patch cord must be checked before use by connecting it between the 1st one and the power meter
-
Both connectors that go to the optical link are double-checked by the previous measurement as well
-
When performing similar measurement on multi-mode system, mandrels are needed additionally to avoid overfilled conditions
-
For bidirectional measurement on one fiber, both light source and power meter need to change their location. This isn't necessary with a pair of testers
