Corning India “Run for a Cause”
June 2009
Corning India employees and their familes joined hundreds of other professionals, teenagers, and toddlers in a run to raise awareness and funds to combat thalassemia – a progressive disease that disfigures and takes the lives of thousands of children in India every year. The event, organized by the Genesis Foundation, included five- and ten-kilometer runs.
The overwhelming participation by employees of companies based in Gurgaon helped raise $25,000 for the Genesis Foundation, which is helping fund the treatment of four thalassemic children who require immediate bone marrow transplants. The proceeds from race T-shirts and caps – as well as from a post-run breakfast and donations – all went toward the treatment of the children.
With the support of the business community, the Genesis Foundation has so far managed to provide life-saving treatment for 68 thalassemic children. And, “Run for the Cause” has become a regular event in many countries around the world, raising funds for causes such as thalassemia, cancer, and many other diseases.
