Environmental preservation efforts at the Shizuoka plant

community shizuoka-plantJanuary 2008
Preserving the environment around their plant and building good relationships with their community has become an ongoing tradition for employees at the Corning Display Technologies plant in Shizuoka. Initiated several years ago by a group of four or five volunteers, the number of participants has grown steadily – and now, dozens of employees take part in the semi-annual clean-up event.

The area designated for clean-up includes the roads and pavement around the Shizuoka Plant as well as the nearby Fukada River. The employees’ clean-up efforts, coupled with the plant’s practice of thoroughly cleaning and filtering the water that discharges into the river, are having a noticeable effect on the environment surrounding the plant. The ecosystem is thriving, improving the public’s impression of the plant.

In addition to carrying out clean-up activities in the local area, the Corning Shizuoka plant sends out volunteers to take part in a regional marathon, holds blood donor sessions, and conducts plant visits for senior citizens clubs and students. The plant will continue to play a useful role in the local community in the future.
