glossary of common terms

Blindmate Interconnect
or blindmate (often referred to as a ‘bullet’). A female to female within series adapter which is captivated between two panel or circuit mounted males (called shrouds). A blindmate allows increased misalignment between two modules.

Detent
The detent is a ring which interacts with the slotted outer conductor of the mating female to produce repeatable levels of mate retention. The detent ring is located within the male shroud.

GPO Detent
The GPO detent is a physical feature located within the GPO male shroud that interacts with the GPO female to produce repeatable levels of mate retention.

Female Interface
The orientation of an RF connector is determined by the inner conductor. The female interface uses a slotted inner conductor as a receptable for the pin contact of the mating male interface.

Jack Interface
The orientation of a RF connector is determined by the inner conductor. The jack, or female, interface uses a slotted inner conductor as a receptacle for the pin contact of the mating plug, or male, interface.

Male Interface
The orientation of an RF connector is determined by the inner conductor. The male interface uses a pin contact to mate with the slotted center contact receptacle of the female interface.

Plug Interface
The orientation of a RF connector is determined by the inner conductor. The plug, or male, interface uses a pin contact to mate with the slotted receptacle contact of the mating jack, or female, interface.

Shroud
The outer conductor portion of the GPO or GPPO male interface. The shroud protects the female interface, provides electrical contact, and houses the detent ring.

When used in the GMS product line context the shroud refers to the portion of the GMS jack outer conductor that protects the electrical contact and guides the GMS plus into position.
